(Opportunity) Inventory and Archive Intern

The Valerie J. Maynard Foundation is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Inventory and Archive Intern to support the Foundation’s ongoing archival and collections management efforts. This junior role works closely under the guidance of the Archival Associate to assist with the documentation, handling, and preparation of artworks, photographs, documents, and other archival materials related to the legacy of artist and activist Valerie J. Maynard.

Summer Reflection – Meridian Kinney

Over the summer, I had the incredible opportunity to work with the Valerie J. Maynard Foundation as a Legacy Intern. The Foundation is an organization that is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Valerie Maynard’s artistry, activism, and advocacy.

Newsletter 1 – August is a month of beginnings

It is with this jubilant warrior-spirit that we launch the Valerie J. Maynard Foundation newsletter, a place to connect with the life and legacy of this fierce artist, activist and teacher as it reverberates from her home in Baltimore and across the planet. May this site of virtual exchange always hold fast to the Black August pillars of culture, community and education that held up Valerie Maynard’s sky. 

What Is Legacy Made Of? Found Objects and Material Culture in the Sculptures of Valerie Maynard – VIA Baltimore Museum of Art

Multidisciplinary artist, archivist, and culture worker MacKenzie River Foy served as Valerie J. Maynard Legacy Intern in 2023–24, in the inaugural cohort of the collaborative internship program created by the Valerie J. Maynard Foundation and the Baltimore Museum of Art. The internship honors artist Valerie J. Maynard (1937–2022; pictured above), a pioneering member of the Black Arts Movement and beloved icon of the Baltimore arts community, whose multidecade practice engaged with the complexity of Black identity and experience.
