Inventory and Archive InternBaltimore, Maryland (Hybrid) | Part-Time (Temporary Summer) | $24 per hour
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Documentation
- Assist with cataloging artworks, ephemera, photographs, and other archival items using established systems and metadata standards.
- Support the creation and maintenance of inventory records, labels, and item descriptions.
- Conduct condition checks and prepare basic documentation for conservation or handling.
Collections Handling & Organization
- Aid in the physical organization and safe storage of archival materials and artworks.
- Support the re-housing of items using archival-quality materials.
- Handle materials according to preservation protocols and under supervision of the Archival Associate.
Digitization & Access
- Prepare items for digitization, including cleaning, positioning, and documentation.
- Input metadata and digital file information into relevant databases.
- Assist with file management, naming conventions, and digital backup procedures.
Research & Reference Support
- Conduct basic research to support cataloging and contextualization of materials.
- Retrieve requested items for staff, consultants, or researchers as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and care when working with culturally sensitive materials.
Project & Internship Support
- Support Legacy Specialist Interns by helping orient them to inventory procedures and tools.
- Participate in special archival or exhibition projects as directed.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Current undergraduate in Library Science, Art History, Museum Studies, Africana Studies, or a related field.
- Prior experience in a museum, archive, or library setting is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with digital tools and cataloging systems is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to follow established workflows and take direction from senior staff.
- Comfort handling fragile or delicate materials with care and respect.
- Interest in African American history, cultural preservation, and/or community archives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Working Conditions
Location: Hybrid (on-site at the Foundation’s archive in Baltimore with occasional remote tasks).
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and move materials up to 25 pounds and stand for periods during inventory tasks.
Schedule: Part-time with flexible hours; occasional weekend work may be requested in support of public programs or special projects.
